About 20 years before FF6 begins, a human woman named Madonna wandered into the Esper World. Maduin, a male esper, found her and took her into the residence. The other espers were quite upset because it was common belief that humans and Espers could never co-exist. However, despite cultural differences, Madonna captivaed Maduin, and he gave her his pendant which helped protect the Espers. However, Madonna was prepared to go back into her own world the next day, but Maduin stopped her near the gate. Madonna reminded him that humans and espers could not co-exist. But Maduin asked her"How do we know unless we observe for ourselves?." In other words, he was probably starting to doubt that belief. He turned into a blue sparkle and repeated his question. So, after the whole "observation" dilemma, a child was born to Madonna and Maduin - half-esper; half human was born-proof that humans and espers COULD co-exist, thus the survival of the infant named- that's right- Terra! The next two years were swell, with baby Terra and her family chilling in Esperville- until Ghesthal and the big,bad , evil empire discovered the gate. He ordered his soldiers to capture all the espers. the eldest esper tried to reclose the gate but to no avail.. All the humans were sucked out of the esper world including Madonna and baby Terra. As Maduin and madonna lay dying, Madonna foolishly entrusted Terra to Gesthal hoping he'd take care of her! Maduin was taken to the Magitek Factory and held captive for 16 years. Let's just say, things don't look too hot for Terra. But I refuse to believe that she was under mind control from age 2 till age 18. Why? Well, when terra has one of her flashbacks, she is seen as an adult sprite when Kefka puts the slave crown on her. This is just a theory, but I don't think the Empire was actually planning to do this to Terra all the way back when. Remember when Biggs and Wedge said she fired 50 of our magitek dudes in about three minutes? Well, if she was under mind control, by the Empire, and since Magitek kinghts work for the Empire, it must have been out of her own free will. So they decided it was too dangerous to let her keep her own mind, so she was put under the slave crown. I believe that she actually speant about only one year MAXIMUM under the slave crown. Back to the story Terra, is now under control of the slave crown. She, Biggs, and Wedge are told to go to Narshe to retreive the Esper Tritoch. After causing a lot of commotion in Winter Wonderland, they get into the mines and fight some snail in a shell. Afterwards, Tritoch blows away Biggs and Wedge and Terra passes out. Things do not look too hot for our gal....
Side note: Terra's mom being named Madonna is cool, since Madonna is my favorite singer. That's why it pissed me off that they changed her name to Madeline on the GBA :@
